Medicare Enrollment Window Is Now

By Ethan Kalvin

If you're a senior on Medicare, you may consider a blessing or a curse, depending on how you view your health coverage experience. For many there aren't clear options, considering the recent changes that have been made in the plan. It can be difficult to navigate the choices.

Since Congress enacted changes to the Medicare program a few years ago, coverage levels and options changed dramatically. For many senior citizens, maneuvering the new plan has been daunting. Considering that the changes are for the entire year, coverage choices made during enrollment are important.

Many people may not be aware of this, but the time to make changes to your Medicare options is now. The window of opportunity to amend your initial choices is upon us, and the dates to make changes to your plan are for this year from November 15th until December 31st. If you need to make changes to your original choices then you have the option to do this, but only until midnight on December 31, 2008. After that you will be locked into your choices again for another year.

Most of you have been able to assess your coverage experiences and have more than likely learned more about your options and the choices of your friends. A proper assessment is important, however, because any coverage needs you may have that are not currently being met need to be addressed and changed if there are better options for you.

With the relatively small yearly period of enrollment to your Medicare insurance plan, it is time to make changes now if you are unhappy in any way. Even if you've been comfortable with your coverage, it is still a good idea to revisit the issue to assure no new and better options have arisen. Make sure everything is the way it will best serve your needs. That's what it was designed for. - 18193
